The China-Eurasia Council for Political and Strategic Research, in cooperation with the Routledge Research in Eurasian Geopolitics Book Series and the Eurasian Continent Research Association, is pleased to announce the China and Eurasia Summer School 2027 for PhD, MA, and BA students, as well as early-career researchers and young scholars.

This intensive international summer program will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of China’s role in the Eurasian continent, its foreign policy, strategic interests, economic engagement, and geopolitical influence across key regions.

Program Themes

Participants will explore:

• China’s foreign policy toward the South Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Europe;
• Competition and cooperation between China, the United States, and Russia across Eurasia;
• The Belt and Road Initiative and continental connectivity;
• High-tech development, Artificial Intelligence, and cyberspace governance;
• Political economy and geoeconomic transformations;
• Regional organizations, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and BRICS;
• Emerging trends in global governance and the evolving Multipolar World Order.

Faculty

The Summer School will be directed by Dr. Mher Sahakyan, Founder and Director of the China-Eurasia Council for Political and Strategic Research, Founding General Editor of the Routledge Research in Eurasian Geopolitics book series, 2024-2025 Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University, and 2020-2022 AsiaGlobal Fellow at the University of Hong Kong.

The program will feature distinguished scholars and practitioners from Europe and Asia, including contributors to:

• Routledge Handbook of Chinese and Eurasian International Relations;
• Routledge Handbook of China’s Belt and Road Initiative in Eurasia;
• China and Eurasian Powers in a Multipolar World Order 2.0: Security, Diplomacy, Economy and Cyberspace;
• China and Eurasia Rethinking Cooperation and Contradictions in the Era of Changing World Order

who are also members of the Eurasian Continent Research Association and advisory board of the China-Eurasia Council for Political and Strategic Research.

Format

The Summer School will be conducted online via Zoom from 16 June to 2 July 2027, enabling participants from around the world to engage with leading experts in China and Eurasia studies.

In addition, participants will have an opportunity to visit Armenia and attend the VIII Eurasian Research on Modern China and Eurasia Conference, where they can meet, network, and exchange ideas with scholars, researchers, and policy experts from across Eurasia and beyond.
