Dr. Mher D. Sahakyan and Professor Kent Calder Discuss Eurasian Geopolitics in Washington

Washington, D.C., July 10, 2025, – A highly productive two-hour meeting took place between Dr. Mher D. Sahakyan and Professor Kent E. Calder, Director of the Edwin O. Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies and the Edwin O. Reischauer Professor of East Asian Studies at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).

Held at Professor Calder’s office, the discussion spanned key issues in Eurasian geopolitics and geoeconomics. Dr. Sahakyan also conducted an interview for his forthcoming book. The two scholars acknowledged their shared research interests and the importance of continued collaboration.

Professor Calder generously provided Dr. Sahakyan with his influential books Super Continent: The Logic of Eurasian Integration and The New Continentalism: Energy and Twenty-First-Century Eurasian Geopolitics. In return, Dr. Sahakyan presented him with a hard copy of China and Eurasian Powers in a Multipolar World Order 2.0 and an e-book version of the Routledge Handbook of Chinese and Eurasian International Relations.

Reflecting on their exchange, Dr. Sahakyan remarked, “This exchange underscored the importance of sustained scholarly dialogue. I am deeply grateful to Professor Calder for his hospitality, time, and support.”
