Meet Dr. Paulo Afonso B. Duarte, an Advisory Board Member of the Eurasian Research on Modern China and Eurasia Conference. He actively contributed to the V and VI editions of the Eurasian Research on Modern China and Eurasia Conference and co-authored “The Security Dimension of the Digital Silk Road: From Netpolitik to Digitalpolitik” chapter for the Routledge Handbook of China’s Belt and Road Initiative and Eurasia (2025).

Paulo Afonso B. Duarte (Portuguese) is Assistant Professor at the University of Minho, Portugal. PhD and a Masters in Political and Social Sciences, by Catholic University of Louvain. Expert in China’s Belt and Road Initiative, on China, World Politics, and specifically Central Asia, where he carried out on-the-ground doctoral research (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan) with a scholarship awarded from Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. His works have been published in Global Policy, Journal of Contemporary European Studies, Journal of Asian Security and International Affairs, Global Discourse, Global Security: Health, Science and Policy, Journal of Eurasian Studies, The Pacific Review, among others.
